Press Invite Reveals Nvidia’s Plans To Show Off First Quad-Core Phones at MWC 2012

7

Looks like Nvidia is getting ready for another quad-core industry “first” when they introduce the world’s first Tegra 3 powered smartphones at this year’s Mobile World Congress. The press invite they sent to media outlets revealed in an image of a strapping young gentleman completely enthralled with his smartphone (generic device used) instead of the high speed roller coaster (or uber hot young lass sitting beside him).

It will be interesting to see which Android OEM’s make the move to Nvidia’s Tegra 3 platform seeing how the majority of devices in 2011 adopted dual-core processors manufactured by either Qualcomm or Texas Instruments. Rumors point to HTC making that transition with their upcoming HTC Edge flagship but nothing has been confirmed.

One thing is certain, Phandroid will be on-hand as we travel to Barcelona for MWC 2012, bringing you the very latest on all things Android from one of the year’s biggest events. You guys as pumped as I am?

I've been obsessed with consumer technology for about as long as I can remember, be it video games, photography, or mobile devices. If you can plug it in, I have to own it. Preparing for the day when Android finally becomes self-aware and I get to welcome our new robot overlords.

  1. At least Nvidia is bringing in the fun. Samsung can suck it.

Although, the last time I heard, Tegra does not play well with LTE?

  2. Yeah but tegra really does suck though…they just about beat Exynos chip which is a year older…
For me nVidia is a no-no

  3. Yea, enjoy till the time Exynos 4412/5250/5450 are released.

  4. I have the Tegra 2 and will never buy a phone with one of their processors in it. There is no support for them and barely faster than a single core Omap.

  5. I’m still really curious to here more about the Intel chips.
And yes, I’m super pumped for MWC!

  6. I have a Tegra 2 phone and it works just fine. With custom ROMs and kernel it runs on par or better than a dual core Exynos or OMAP.

  7. i’ve been trying to decide on a new phone for a few months. quad core is a good start
