The Moto Z2 could ditch stock Android for a custom “ZUI” skin

ZUI on the ZUK Z2

One of the cool things about Motorola phones is that they basically run stock Android. This has been the case every since Google acquired them several years ago. Lenovo is now in charge, but the stock Android has remained. That could be changing soon.

The next Motorola phones could have a custom “ZUI” skin, which Lenovo has been using on its ZUK branded devices. Lenovo competes with companies that have their own custom skin, such as MIUI, EMUI, Flyme, etc. This could be their attempt to have something unique, but one could argue stock Android was already unique.

We’re not sure if ZUI will be for flagships or low-end devices. Stock Android has made Motorola devices great for Android enthusiasts. Even with Google no longer in charge, it was nice to have an option for stock other than the Pixel and old Nexus devices. How do you feel about this decision?

Ever since I flipped open my first phone I've been obsessed with the devices. I've dabbled in other platforms, but Android is where I feel most at home.
