Download This: “Simply” is the Facebook app you should be using

The Facebook app is notoriously bad. It’s bloated and can be a big drain on battery life. To make matters worse, most manufacturers pre-install the Facebook app. The best thing you can do is disable the app and use Chrome to access the Facebook mobile site. It’s almost a perfect replacement. You can put the bookmark on your home screen and still get notifications, but I wanted something better.

A lot of 3rd-party Facebook apps are basically just wrappers for the mobile site. A lot of them try to do too much. Simply, as the name implies, is a dead simple “app” for Facebook. It’s a Chrome custom tab for Facebook. That means it uses the power of Chrome, but it doesn’t get lost in the mix of the Chrome browser. And unlike many 3rd-party apps, you don’t even have to log in. Chances are you’re already logged into Facebook in Chrome. Simply allows the Facebook mobile site to act more like a real app.

What makes it better than using Facebook in the main Chrome browser? Unlike a bookmark, Simply appears in your app drawer. It also appears in the Recent Apps screen, just like a normal app. Facebook links can be opened in Simply by default. If you use Nova Launcher (and many other launchers), you can even change the name and icon so Simply looks like the Facebook app.

The Facebook app is not great. We always recommend uninstalling/disabling and using the browser. Chrome does a pretty good job of replicating the Facebook app, but there are a few things it can’t do. Simply picks up where Chrome leaves off and makes the mobile site feel even more like a real app. It’s a simple concept that can greatly improve your Facebook experience.
