Yesterday, Google made the best value in smartphones even more cheap — they dropped the price of the Nexus 4 by $100 for both models. That effectively made the Nexus 4 $200 for the 8GB model and $250 for 16GB.
The problem? Some folks who just bought a Nexus might not be happy about that. Thankfully, Google did something they really didn’t have to — they’re giving folks a chance to get $100 back. There are a couple of conditions that must be met:
- Your phone has to have been purchased on or after August 12th 2013.
- You’ll need to specifically request a refund from Google.
- Your request must be made within 15 days from today’s date (August 28th, 2013).
I have a feeling that won’t be a problem for most of you considering Google really doesn’t have to do this. Think of it as a gesture of good will — don’t be evil, and such. If you bought a Nexus 4 within the past couple of weeks then be sure to head over to the Play Store and request your refund right away.
There’s an error in this article. The price drops are $200 for the 8GB model and $250 for the 16GB model. I don’t think the Nexus 4 comes in a 32GB model.
That’s a good faith gesture on Google’s part. It would basically push the “return/refund” period, for a Nexus 4, to 1 month (for the latest possible purchases, that apply) from original purchase date (e.g. 9/12).
If it were truly good will, they would issue refunds without requiring a request from the buyer. Making people jump through hoops (no matter how small) is unnecessary.
I’ve been thrilled with Google’s customer service as of late. I’ve had to call into the Google Play support line twice over the last few months. Excellent support. Complete 180 from the days of the Nexus One.
Good Guy Google.
I would be inclined to buy this phone at this new low price, but am hesitant after reading about so much broken glass.
Just take care of it. Never had any problems
i hate cases, but i felt obligated to put on a thin tpu case… dropped it many times, so far no broken glass *knock on wood*
Two here and not a problem.
if you look at it the wrong way the glass cracks
If you’re worried about the glass breaking, check out DBrand. They make great skins for your phones and you can make them look completely different, wood, metal, carbon fibre, leather, and a variety of colours. I got one for my Nexus 4 and it really protects the back.
I hope this price stays for the next couple of months. These will make great Christmas gifts.
buy them now and save them for later
I am so glad google is taking this step for us consumers to be fully satisfied with our purchase.
As of this am, they were not offering a refund in the UK. I bought one on the 17th, and all I could do, upon enquiry was refuse the delivery to get a full refund and then order a new one at the reduced price.
I still can’t believe than a BRAND NEW Nexus 4 can be purchased for $200
They make so much off data farming that they afford to make devices that much cheaper. The more phones out there, the more they make.
sucks for me i bought a new 16gig for 400 and dropped it and broke the screen …its 169 for a digitizer …but 199 for a new phone…???.. im s.o.l. and soooo pissed
