Get It While It’s Hot – All New And Improved Dropbox Now Officially Available In The Android Market

18

That new and improved Dropbox preview we told you about yesterday? Well, it looks like the beta testing went well enough and the app is finally (after 2 days) available for download in the Android Market. And a welcome update it is. Bringing about a new UI for easier navigation and Ice Cream Sandwich support, Galaxy Nexus users everywhere are no doubt rejoicing. I love me some Dropbox. All new features include:

  • Favorites: quick offline access to files
  • Bulk upload photos and videos
  • Rename files and folders
  • Single-tap access to all file and folder actions
  • Improved gallery view
  • Upload from and export to local storage
  • Numerous bug fixes and stability improvements

Oh — and if you don’t know what this Dropbox thang is about (you knew this was coming) click on this link here to sign up and get a bonus 250MB of extra storage (shameless plug). After that, download the app for free in the Android Market via the link below. Cheers!

Thanks, Paul!

  1. Duuuuuude. I was just transferring stuff like 15 minutes ago and now you’re telling me I CAN TRANSFER IT BETTER?!?!?!?!

    Praise teh Lawd!!!!

    Thanks :)

  2. New update sucks!

They moved the dropbox folder in the file system to an obscure location.

It wont recognized by the Gallery anymore.

Moving files to the other folder in the phone file system is a pita!

Damn, how can I get back to the previous version?

    Any alternative to Dropbox?

    1. Minus with 50GB of free storage :)

      1. I dont have 50 gb with Dropbox anyway. And efficiency is everything!

Try to move multiple files from Dropbox to other phone folder, you should know what I meant.

Old version was much much easier!

Instead of long press to download, now you mist use the Export option, choose export to sd card, then choose the folder to put … Each time for each file you download! … What a stupid inefficient way of downloading file.

        1. No, I mean theres a service called “Minus” that gives you (up to) 50GB of free service! xD

          http://minus.com/
You start out with 10GB’s though =p

          1. Thanks Chris, I will check that. Probably Phandroid can make article about this kind of service which are available on Android. Do comparison pn iser interface, efficiency, features and storage size :)

        2. Or favorite it, then after download, unfavorite it.

    2. Well, NOW, the data used by Dropbox is compliant by Android guidelines for where should apps store their data. But they should state that after the update when you first start the app, that the file location was moved.

That would save me the rant the other day when I couldn’t open my keepass password database and didn’t know my credit cards PIN (the one I rarely use). If I knew that they changed the location, I would open the database from there.

  3. You and I just got an extra 250mb Mr. Chavez..

  4. becareful, dropbox folder in your device is gone after you update.

    1. Not gone, but they moved it to an obscure location: Android/data/…

      Bad move from dropbox …

      1. oh, I found it! thank you for the info!
but I prefer previous version too…

    2. they didn’t remove the Folder – they moved it to –

      /Android/data/com.dropbox.android/files/scratch/

it’s ideal that you always open the files from the Dropbox app. however, if you need to, you can access or move the files from this location via Astro etc.

      enjoy.

  5. Chris, you saved my life when you wrote the article a while back about Minus. I signed up immediately, and I’m at 15 gigs now. I’m surprised that people are still using Dropbox.

  6. Does “shameless plug” amount to full disclosure? If someone signs up off that link, you get extra space. Why couldn’t you just type that out?

  7. So, can dropbox now watch a folder so that anything I drop or save there is synchronized? Doing file management/document creation and remembering what files were moved or altered then going into dropbox to synchronize is just too onerous.
