Verizon’s LTE Galaxy Nexus Stops by the FCC, Release Still Up in the Air

44

Did you ever think that someone at Verizon is having a good laugh over the rampant speculation around the release of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus? It’s quite surprising that Verizon has kept such a tight seal on information regarding potential release dates. That or they don’t even know a date yet themselves. One thing that is certain is that the Galaxy Nexus with Verizon LTE just made the stop at the FCC, a coming-of-age moment in any smartphone’s life. We can assure you we didn’t hear this one from a friend’s piano teacher’s student’s mother.

We continue to receive tips and counseling regarding the release of the Galaxy Nexus, and the dates range from the end of this week up until the middle of December. If you’d like to keep up to date with all the latest happenings (rumors change so quickly it’s hard to report every last one), we implore you to head over to the epic Galaxy Nexus thread over at AndroidForums. 1. Yawn

  2. Huh. I’m not familiar enough with the FCC’s process. If a phone is just now going throught the FCC, how long does it typically take to make it to the market? Like I said, I’m not an expert, but the December rumors are looking more legit all of a sudden.

    1. Just FYI, the Droid 3, Bionic, Rezound, and RAZR all took about a month between hitting the FCC and being released.  I would guess mid December for the Nexus.

      1. I sincerely hope this isn’t the case here.

      2. i think the iphone was typically around 2 weeks from FCC to landing on doorsteps. so , a month from FCC to in hands is not out of the question….sadly….

        1. Yuck. As disappointing as that sounds… It sounds very possible. You know what? I’m just going to brainwash myself into thinking this phone will drop in December. If it’s earlier, I will be pleasantly surprised.

          1. goog/vzw can’t be stupid enough to miss a cyber monday opportunity (this is my reason for hoping it drops this week or next)

    2. The iPhone 4s hit the FCC on Oct4th then came out the 14th, so it might not be -too- long. I’m pretty sure companies can request the FCC withhold a public release as well, as to not leak new devices too early. Looks like it from the FCC link in this post anyway, as Samsung submitted one.

  3. can’t freaking wait

  4. I thought all of these rumors were a bit odd since we had not even seen the phone go through FCC.  The GSM variant passed through the FCC quite a while ago but not LTE version.

    1. That’s what i was thinking… didnt the gsm pass through at least a month ago?

  5. Well…the Rezound stopped by the FCC for the final time on October 28th and released on November 14th.
Sooo….that leads me to believe the GNex will be released tomorrow :)

Please do not question my logic behind this!

  6. 17 days for the Rezound – though it was the 2nd time through (to add wireless charging)

  10. They are pissing me off with the nexus the same way they did with the Bionic.  If the Bionic would have released anywhere near the time that we started hearing about it, it would have been my phone.  If we are talking about December for the Nexus Prime (I will never us the word “Galaxy” when talking about a phone), I will just wait for the quad-cores to start coming into existence.

    1. a) Count yourself lucky that you didn’t get a bionic then, since the Razr is already out
      b) You can call it by the wrong name if you want, but it’s still wrong. There’s no such thing as a “Nexus Prime”
      c) We probably are talking about December

  11. Just freaking release the damn f’ing phone…and stop with all these apparent glimpsing, eta on release…

  12. I JUST TALK TO A VERIZON REP SHE SAID “EVERYONE IS ASKING FOR THE PHONE” SHE ALSO SAID THAT YEA YOU CAN BUY A PHONE NOW AND RETURN IT TILL JANUARY 9

    1. Yeah, for the price of a restocking fee. No thanks.

      1. Yeah. For me buying a Rezound and then returning it to Verizon for $35 seems like I’ve given into their demands. By holding out for another week or so I feel better about myself.

  13. What if the issue is too much demand?
Past nexus phones didn’t really sell like hot cakes. I would imagine they (google and samsung) maybe expected the same? GN could have been viewed like a limited edition phone by google. But they got more demand than they expected. With that much demand they may not even want to advertise it because they probably won’t be able to meet the demand.

    1. Or need a couple extra weeks to bust out a few million more units. Demand outselling inventory isn’t a terrible problem to have.

  14. I have it on good faith from the text on a 1998 box of Count Chocula cereal that this phone will definitely maybe be possibly released this year.

  15. mfw I have pentaband galaxy nexus and everyone is still waiting on LTE nexus from Verizon

  16. wow, how can these companies screw this stuff up?  i don’t get it!  just make a commitment already and relese it!

  17. Ok cry babies ! Release date for GN according to my brother who works for Verizon Corporate office in Sacramento as General manager on Marketing ((((Dec 2nd)))))

  18. Google continues to show that they are the carriers bitch. They have no control over Android in any form.

    1. If you’re a Verizon subscriber, maybe you should really ask yourself WHO is that carrier’s bitch.

      1. Unlimited data and a lot of 4G markets? Yeah, I’m not leaving any time soon.

        1. Amen to that. $30 unlimited for the best network around. Yes please.

    2. troll alert

    3. trololololololol

  19. Has anybody been able to confirm the physical size of the LTE version of this phone. As was stated in the press conference the dimensions given were for the GSM version. Will the LTE radio make this phone thicker?

    1. They said it will be “slightly thicker”. No one knows what that means, but seem as how the RAZR is about 10mm at its thickest point, maybe we can expect the same. That would only make it 1mm thicker than its GSM cousin and the GSII and the iPhone4. Not bad.

      1. Thanks Man…

    2. Who cares? It’s not like it’s going to go from 10 mm to a full inch. I wouldn’t care if they made it thicker so the entire back was smooth instead of having the camera bump out. Then they could put a bigger battery in it too.

      1. I obviously care, that’s why I asked. Until the RAZR was released all of these LTE phones were too fat. So just wondering out loud and looking for some answers.

    1. fucking lawls dude. you sir WIN.

  20. GIVE IT TO ME A-L-R-E-A-D-Y VERIZON!!!
    >=o(

  21. MAN LOOK THE PHONE COMES OUT ON NOVEMBER 31st and in case you don’t believe me look it up on twitter

  22. Will we have to wait for eternity for this to arrive?
