Brainchild Shows Off Kineo: Android Tablet with a Focus on Education

12

Today at the Florida Educational Technology Conference Brainchild unveiled their new Android tablet, the Kineo. The Kineo features a 7-inch 800×480 touchscreen, 800MHz CPU, and 2GB of storage. Wi-Fi and HDMI out round out a tablet that would otherwise be forgettable if it wasn’t for a special focus on primary and middle school education. The Kineo is designed to be distributed in the classroom, and in addition to educational applications sports some pretty solid security features to prevent students from accessing unapproved content.

Says Jeff Cameron, president of Brainchild, “Learning devices need to enhance instruction, not be a distraction. With over 15 years of experience in developing handhelds and software for schools, we know how to make a tablet device suited to a teacher’s needs for individualized instruction.”

Check out the Kineo for yourself in the below video. Don’t you wish you had one of these when you were in school? Whatever happened to the days of playing Oregon Trail on those old Apple IIs?

  1. bout freak’n time :) I’d love to see some good training packages for music and Spanish, to start with.

  2. Couldn’t you do this on any tablet? Maybe you would need an app to lock the students into whatever content you want them to be focused on but I’m not sure I understand the need for this. Is it going to be cheaper than a regular tablet? My guess is that it won’t be able to compete on price unless one or more governments orders millions of them.

  3. Admittedly, I am an android fanboy, but this thing is freaking sweet! Good job on utilizing technology as a tool for education!

  8. This is great. We have been looking for just this type product for all the tier 1,2 and 3 students in our district. We started using the brainchild.com “Web Achiever” a few years ago and saw our scores go up with that. Now we have something for the “hands on” learner.

  10. I was pretty torn up when I saw that iPads were becoming mandatory in some schools, not just because of the very temporary and needy OS, but because they’re very expensive and too prone to leading students to distraction.
This reminds me of Sugar :D
