Mobile Editing Coming to Google Docs for Android

by Quentyn Kennemer on September 20th, 2010 at 12:54 pm

Google’s celebrating great performance and growth as 3 million companies and schools have “gone Google” by announcing a new version of Google Docs that’ll allow you to edit and synchronize your documents on your Android device. This is one feature many have been requesting from Google for a long time, now, so I’m sure more than just a few of you are jumping with joy.

It’s not clear if they’ll be updating the mobile site or offering a native application, however, as they also announced the new functionality for the iPad, specifically, leaving the iPhone out of the equation. Whatever the case is, we’re set over here on the Android side and we’ll be looking out for these changes coming soon. Thanks, Google!

    Its about freakin time.

Finally, been waiting on this for a while and the Gdocs app (not from Google) just doesn’t cut it.

Why do so many businesses trust putting their confidential documents and communications on Google owned servers? This seems like a recipe for disaster. Although the idea of having Google Doc access is nice from a personal perspective.

  • Alex

The ones that don’t trust Google with their data don’t have to switch.

    Jonathan Drake,

the problem is not that the data is in google servers, the problem is that googlers might misuse it. But then your employees might misuse the data in your own servers, what will you do then ? shutdown the company ?

Well …. Where is it? … anyone know? …

I was shocked I couldn’t edit Google Docs on my first Google phone (G-1). I’ve been patiently waiting, and now I’ve had my Droid a year.

It’s utterly amazing it doesn’t exist yet. … or does it? …

The post said “a few weeks” on Sept 20 … So … where is it? … is it available yet? UGH.

I love Google, thank you for all the free stuff and being a technology leader, but can I please edit Google Docs on my Google phone? … pretty please? … c’mon dude!

  • Quentyn Kennemer

@fflad I’m able to access and edit Docs on my phone through my browser just fine.
