HTC: 2 or More Androids in 2009

3

htc-3HTC launched the first ever Android Phone – the T-Mobile G1 / HTC Dream. They’re poised to launch the second mass market Android Phone in the HTC Magic. And HTC’s CEO said just today that Android fans can expect AT LEAST 2 more Android Phones this year. I am (to say the least) excited.

The news came at the Merrill Lynch technology conference in Taipei, where Peter Chou answered a question concerning rumors that HTC would launch 5 Android phones in 2009. His reply contained, “at least 3,” but offering virtually no more information on the subject. But no more information is needed to get excited that 2009 will be an awesome year for Android. The first few months have been slow, but there are still 9 months remaining to make 2009 the year of the Droid.

I’m curious to know what form factor these other 2 devices will be. It would make sense if one was a BlackBerry-ish device to diversify the product offering and I know that a lot of people are still clamoring for a supercharged, Touch HD-like device with a killer camera, and specs out the wazoo. But what do you think we’ll see from HTC in regards to form factor and specs for the upcoming Androids?

  1. Hopefully something with a keyboard (like the g1), a VGA screen (like the HTC diamond – really nice screen) – both g1 and magic has HVGA (Half VGA).
But I hope the most, that they will open up the sale where it has not been before, like they promised http://translate.google.com/translate?prev=hp&hl=da&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.business.dk%2Farticle%2F20081120%2Ftechmobil%2F81120062%2F&sl=da&tl=en&swap=1 – I am from Denmark and can not buy it :(.

  2. Great news! I can’t wait for Verizon to pick up an Android phone. I’m stuck on V due to business requirements. Also stuck on Windows Mobile phones due to business requirement. But, if V picks up Android, I will be soliciting management to consider allowing Android phones as well as WinMob phones.

Thanks for the great blog! Keep up the great work.

  3. Please let them make a Touch HD hybrid that has a slide out QWERTY. I think that would be the only thing that would cause me to prematurely replace my G1.
