One of the best ideas to come out of ‘ol Mt. View since Android — Google is looking to protect their latest idea from that other company, by securing patents related to Project Glass. Four patents in particular give Google sole rights to a device secured by a set of spectacles, with a camera over the eye area and a nose-pad sensor to tell the device when it’s being worn. A couple of slightly more complicated patents were also apart of the paperwork. You’ll notice a little something about displays over both eyes, in which different information is displayed on each. Sounds like that could take some getting used to.
It’s sad that the first thing that comes to mind when a company rushes to grab patents for a unique invention is Apple and their legal team. Still, it’s nice to see Google planning ahead. Crazy times we live in.

I agree Chris. The fact that google is starting to do the legal wrangling and planning ahead could only be good for us android fans. Even if google doesn’t go any further with project in the near future, it will quell any legal problems that may come up. Its about time google gave apple a dose of their own medicine.
Well, technically if Google gave Apple a dose of their own medicine, they’d be running around, suing the pants off of everyone and making Android closed source =p
Great point. Hard not to agree with that. But, I’m sure apple has a legal team that doesn’t sleep either. Must be nice to blow all those millions of dollars on lawyers instead of making a device that would give android a run for its money… in my opinion.
Or even make a self-driving car or pay those Chinese kids working in their factories a dollar more an hour. Sheeeeeet..

I hate to sound bitter, but I would lay 10 to 1 that at some point in the near future, ole rotten to the core, inc. will still sue google or a google partner over something to do with this type of technology. Go ahead, take my odds, I dare ya. ;p
I still find it interesting that they won’t go after Google, only the manufacturers.
I imagine that if Android were attacked directly via a lawsuit towards Google, then Google could call Android OEMs together to pool a defense. It could draw on patents from Samsung, LG, HTC, Huawei, ZTE, Panasonic, Sony, etc and have a better chance of defeating Apple in court.
Currently, they can sue individual OEMs and the other OEMs won’t come rushing to their side.
Tim Cook: “We cannot let a smart glasses gap develop. Call in the lawyer.”
Good, protect what is rightfully yours because you know apple will come along years later and say they invented it after this has been out awhile.
Good looking out, Googs!
Apple is gonna make it out of glass, stamp an apple logo and call themselves innovators. Ah, And don’t forget the clunky iOS
Yeah, one has to be uber-prudent when it comes to control freak megalomaniacs like Apple… Its hard to not “be evil” when your competition is so darn vile.
