The Huawei Ascend II will apparently be available online next week for US Cellular. The device is a mid-range follow-up to the original that doesn’t take many risks compared to the original. We’ve got a 3.5 inch display, a 5 megapixel camera and Android 2.3. This sequel might not be worth it to Ascend 1 users but if you’re looking to break into Android then you’ve got no reason not to consider the Ascend II. Unfortunately you may not be able to make your purchase decision after checking it out in person as this one won’t be in stores until January. No word on pricing yet but we’ll be able to figure all that out soon enough. [via AndroidGuys]

you guys think somewhere someone is saying “oh man i really wonder if the
huawei ascend2 is coming out for us cellular, let me check phandroid really quick” the only people that know what that brand is are the people that work for them. and on top of that no one knows how to pronounce it. im just saying. i dont think anyone anywhere really cares about this.
I know about this phone. Becuase, my Gf had the “original version” on Cricket. Very plasticly, cheaply made entry level Android phone.
My personal experience is that Huawei phones feel like Samsung phones in hand. Plasticy, yes, but solid. T-Mobile has sold re-branded Huawei phones in the past. Wind Mobile in Canada also sells them.
The Android Huawei phone I did own didn’t have battery life issues nor did it feel awkward in hand. Oh! And it didn’t have poor signal issues. That makes it better than many of the much more expensive phones from the “big players” for many people.
I would be interested in another Huawei product because competing products often suck just as much. The difference? Unlike the bigger players, Huawei products are more affordable to more people. Since Android OS updates are almost always a year or so late, and technology moves so fast, many of us might be better off buying new less expensive products more often.
