In what seems like a common occurrence these days, Lenovo has just dropped the price on their Android-powered IdeaPad A1 tablet down to $200 via their website. The tablet was originally introduced at $350 back when manufacturers were a bit more optimistic on Android tablet adoption. This new price point seems to fall more in line with what is being actually being offered.
We got Android 2.3 Gingerbread, a 1GHz ARM Cortex A8 single-core processor, 512MB of RAM all on a 7-inch 1024×600 resolution display. Unlike the similarly priced Kindle Fire, the IdeaPad A1 does come with a pair of 3MP rear/.3MP front facing cameras for quick snap shots or webchatting. The IdeaPad A1 also comes in your choice of black, white, pink or blue flavors. For $200, sounds like a pretty good deal to me. What do you guys think?

Pink? it’s a real man’s tablet.
Now I feel properly ripped off for having bought an Archos 70 for $275. In all fairness, it has been a good little tablet but 256MB RAM has some SERIOUS restrictions.
I was just about to preorder my kindle fire but I may have to re think that now.
Kindle fire has a dual core cortex A9 this is a single core cortex A8.
This has cameras though (probably not that great). It’s up to you as to which is more important.
Apparently, it also has GPS and a card slot. Those are considerations as well.
the kindle fire’s real asset is the browser. I hope it gets ported to android
its already on android. we just have to pull it out of its system partition. which means we need root on it. or an RUU rile

Just browse to the system directory, copy the file and paste it to storage. Then either mount the device n grab it or just email it to yourself. Problem is, will it work as a stand alone app or is it dependant on other amazon apis/files located on the device
am i missinig something here? opera mini does what kindle fire’s browser will do for years, or not?
I hope thats the case but it could be like pulling the music player out of sense, just cant be done. you never know maybe amazon will release it in the market, theoretically it would benefit them

Guys but where have you read about 350$. As far as I know it was priced 299$ for the 32 Gb version and 199$ for the 8Gb version. Am I missing something?
Hey Chris, according to Lenovo’s website, it’s actually a 5mp rear/2mp front camera combination, and the $199 version only comes in black and only has 2gb of storage. For an additional $50, you get 16gb of storage and the choice of colors.
For $50, I’ll go buy a 32GB sd card at Frys… And I’m a guy, so I don’t really care that it’s black.
I’m not sure if you were questioning my masculinity there, but it’s nice that you’re a guy – that’s an awfully cute picture of a cat you’ve got as your avatar, too. Personally, I’ll be buying a pink one for my girlfriend, so I just wanted to make fellow Phandroids aware that there was an additional $50 cost for something that Chris made sound like it was standard. Plus I wanted to correct the camera specs if that was a deterrent for anyone who read the article.
Maybe cut down on the caffeine in the mornings?
