Sorry, Sprint, but you were a bit too slow. Alaska’s regional GCI has beaten the nationwide carrier to market as the first U.S. carrier to offer a subsidized Samsung Galaxy S II. Those citizens residing in the colder of the two non-contiguous United States have the pleasure of heading out and picking up what looks to be an unadulterated version of the Galaxy S II for a mere $99.99 on contract. The GSII operates on GCI’s “4G” HSPA+ network and features a dual-core CPU, Super AMOLED Plus display, and more. We suppose with an asterisk Sprint can still be the first carrier to release the Galaxy S II in the continental US, right?
What bands do they run on?
All of them for 3G, as it has Quad-Band radios
So, AT&T compatible then? Interesting.
Hmm… AT&T and Tmo have different 3G bands but they have the same 2G bands. I’d get this, but I refuse to have a smartphone on 2G. It’s a horrible experience. -_-
Having a 3g/4g phone stuck on a 2g network Is like driving a sports car but being stuck in 1st and 2nd gear!
No it’s like having a V6 Mustang or Camero.
interesting, even Tmobile would work? I wonder if this one is as easy to unlock as euro gs2
Alaska FTW?
Contiguous. Alaska is on the same continent as the rest of the US (apart from Hawaii obviously). Contiguous means touching. Alaska is not part of the contiguous United States. Sorry, just a pet peeve of mine.
What? First you say Alaska is on the same continent and “contiguous” means “touching”, then you come around and say Alaska is not part of the Contiguous US. Doesn’t it say “Non-contiguous” in the article?
Or was your second sentence a sarcastic remark?
Because you’re contradicting yourself and confusing me. And I’m trying to learn. o.O
no moron, alaska is not touching any other state in the US, therefor, not part of the contiguous US
That is what John was pointing out. That Alaska is not part of the contiguous US. The article, as of right now, says, “We suppose with an asterisk Sprint can still be the first carrier to release the Galaxy S II in the continental US, right?”
sorry that was meant to be a reply to John
Its HSPA+ for Tmo. Nice
Pretty sure Android is going to dominate the holiday period lol. lowest prices, fastest growing platform and best hardware.
Wwwwhat!? Alaska has Cell Phones!? :-P
if you really want to get technical Claro in Puerto Rico was the first to release the GS2
I was just about to write this. Beat me to it.
That’s more of a territory.
A territory of the U.S. So, they got it first.
A territory of the US, but not a part of the US
You mean similar to Alaska? Part of, not attached…splitting hairs here!
lol
Alaska was a territory until it was incorperated as a state. Puerto Rico remains an Unincorperated territory. Look it up, nub
Wonder how much the ETF is? Would be awesome to snag the phone then cancel the contract if its cheap enough
Nope, Viaero wireless has had them since August.

I was about to post the same thing!
Just talked to my mother in law. She lives in Southeast Alaska. She’s ditching her ATT iPhone for this. Now I have to like her.
Only douchebags put quotation marks around 4G when referring to non LTE networks. Anyone around here fit that bill? Hmmm? O_o
i dont know why they do that, since lte isnt true 4g either.
Immix Wireless in PA also has it available now. Regional carriers FTW
Before everyone starts moving to Alaska, there’s a very easy to miss proviso..
“* Regularly $299.99 with a new, two-year contract. For a limited time, existing customers can upgrade to the 4G for the promo price if they bring in their old device and sign a new, two year contract.”
Seems that price is for existing customers to bring in their old device and re-up. New sign-ups it seems will be paying $299 on contract.
