It’s been a long time since we’ve gotten a stock Android device from Motorola – I think the last one was the Milestone/DROID. We’d love it if they’d consider bringing more out to more carriers, but we’ll just have to remain satisfied with today’s news that they’ll be bringing a new handset to Virgin Mobile that appears to be stock Android.
There are some things that throw us off here – like that 3×4 grid that should not be possible unless the launcher was customized. Perhaps it’s just a press shot and the designer has no clue how Android works, or perhaps this is just one quirk of hopefully very few on quite possibly the second device from the big M running stock Android. We’re hoping it’s the former.
As for the hardware, it simply looks like a smaller DROID X with capacitive buttons instead of hard ones. Nothing else is known about this one for the time being, but you know our interest is piqued. [PocketNow]
Now if only I had decent Sprint coverage.
I wonder what they’ll call it? They can’t call it a Droid unless they get permission from George Lucas. Maybe they’ll call it the EVO X.

If it is Tegra 2 with an unlocked bootloader, then it is worth considering.
I would definitely get it if it has a dual core processor and a decent screen.
Here’s hoping this is a success and bring this to Droid 3, Bionic and whatever else they release this year.
Given that this is for Virgin mobile, it’s going to have mid range specs at best-their phones have never been top of the line stuff.
Don’t F*$# this up Motorola!!! I’ve been wanting to try Virgin ($25/month!) and I even might try one of your phones again if the price is right and there’s no Blur anywhere.
Will, I have been on the $25 plan with my Optimus V for 2 months now. I live on Long Island and I get decent (not great) 3g service most of the time. Download speeds are around 600-800kbps typically, with speeds rising to 1.5Mbps on occasion. Upload speads range for 350 to 800kbps in most places. Phone services has been flawless–maybe one dropped call in 2 months. The LG Optimus is a great phone for the money, but I understand waiting to see what motorola is putting together for Virgin Mobile first.
This phone appears to be another iteration of the Motorola Bravo and Defy. It certainly looks like one and would fit well along side the LG Optimus V and Samsung Intercept. For those interested, the Defy and Bravo are targeted toward mid-level android customers. They pack a 3.7″ 480×854 resolution screen and TI OMAP 3610 (Cortex A8) chipset that runs at 800 Mhz. Both also have a 3 megapixel autofocus rear facing camera (no flash). The knock on this phone has always been the software–saddled with moto blur and 2.1, which ate battery life and slowed the phone down.
Although the LG Optimus had a slower processor (Arm 11 600mhz), it packed a faster Adreno 200 GPU and Android 2.2 that allowed to speed past the Bravo and Defy competition. If this turns out to be phone running stock 2.2, it may be interesting indeed!! :)
whats gay about this is that CDMA phones cant be taken to other CDMA carriers, and the few that u can they dont like doing it or it’s ever so slightly not compatible, rending the phone restricted to 1 carrier – iPhone style. i wish there was a way to take CDMA phone to other carriers or verizon could somehow just use GSM instead. all this is also a reason ATT shouldnt get away with buying tmobile as well

Be really nice to get the snazzy HTC phones from Virgin Mobile Canada. Now I’d buy one of those in a heart beat even if it costs $499. Although in the mean time I really don’t mind my Intercept running froyo (it’s like a new phone)… And as far as the Motorola is concerned… I’m not holding my breath… Probably be a stripped down slower Droid X or some other monstrosity.
The article is incorrect. The phone is a Huawei ideos x6 unless motorola is branding the phone as their own. look at the images if you don’t believe me.
