Just about the only thing the original CherryPad had going for it was its price tag set below $200. For that price you got just about what you paid for, so complaining about it was a futile exercise. Or was it? Specs are starting to leak on the followup to the CherryPad, and while it takes a bump up in price the hardware might just be promising enough to justify it.
We are talking a 1GHz Cortex A8 CPU, 512MB of RAM, and Android 2.2 in addition to a 7-inch capacitive touchscreen. Yes, the awful resistive touchscreen of the original is being put to rest. HDMI output and GSM radio support round out the new CherryPad.
And for all that seems to be improving, the price isn’t actually jumping up that much. The price is looking to double into the $300-$400 range, which remains affordable while still being priced just a bit higher than we’d actually want to spend on a device that succeeds the original CherryPad.

I have the original cherrypad and it’s a cheap tablet with market and that’s why I bought it. The market function was not functioning after a while and the promised update to 2.2 was not going to happen. They claimed that they had a beta of 2.2 then scrapped it for 2.3. If they could actually get 2.2 for this tablet, then should should be able to get it for the original. They finally admitted that they could not deliver market to 2.1 and had promised it for 2.3. They try to defend themselves on their own forums by telling unhappy customers to contact them to refund their purchases. At least one such case, the customer was not refunded their money. BTW someone on their forum posted the court proceedings for the eviction of the CTO of the company. For the price I would rather buy something else with a lot more credibility.
I had the OG CherryPad too. It was basically unusable with that bad resistive screen. Probably the worst screen I’ve ever tried. Even with a stylus. Then with all the issues between them and Zecozi… I wouldn’t take another chance on this.

As a (current) Cherrypad owner, I highly recommend not to buy this tablet.
Cherrypal has absolutely no credibility with me. So Why is that such?
First of all: I bought the Cherrypad as a cheap Android tablet with google market access. That what was promised: actually the “market access” is a market demo application with no valid key to the google market and thus stopped working after few downloads.
Second: Cherrypal promised updates – first one to 2.2, later on they changed that one to 2.3. Actually noone has ever seen anything else then the stock 2.1 or a small update removing the demo market and possibly fixing some battery issues.
Third: Cherrypal did not stick to their own specs with the Cherrypad. Website talks about a 800 MHz CPU with 256 MB of RAM and 2 GB of Flash. Actually the dmesg from the kernel running tells quite a different story: 500 MHz, 156 MB, 512 MB.
And last but not least there is the eviction thing, wouldn’t trust them any more of my money…
