So TmoNews has stumbled across a database entry for a phone we haven’t heard of – the Motorola Alpha. What is it, though? According to the entry, it’ll retail for $399.99 for Even More Plus customers. That price point would lead us to believe it isn’t one of their more capable phones. Their guess is that it’s just a CLIQ 2 – nothing exciting at this point considering T-Mobile’s announced it and showed it off at CES already. (We’ll have a video hands-on for you a bit later on.) If it is the CLIQ 2, hoorah! We’ll move on. But we’ll keep the name “Alpha” in the back of our minds as we see the rest of Q1 2011 played out.
Well “Alpha” will be the software that it will debut with and no update to a stable build for another year. Since it is a Cliq variant im sure it will definitely take a year for any upgrade LOL!
That’s if it doesn’t get EOL’ed soon after launch…lol
If you are not a patient person do not buy this phone. Motorola will update you in 6 months time. I own a cliq.
…and Lord, please prevent me from buying any phones Motorola releases untill the real upgrade from the Droid X comes out, Amen

I own a cliq as well, and I still like it, despite all the problems I’ve had with it. I love the general aesthetic of the device, the keyboard is nice, and it’s very sturdy. Too bad the internal hardware and software were definitely full of problems. However, I’d forgive Motorola for it, since it was their first Android based phone (it was released 4 days before the Droid), and the second one does have a nice feature set.
I have a cliq, and I don’t think it can handle 2.1, it’s just horrible. But imma switch to verizon when the Droid Bionic comes out… That thing is gonna be the sh*t!!!!
