The problem with spam calls is that usually it is made from an unknown number, which makes it hard to tell if this is a call from an actual person you know but whose number you didn’t save, or if it is a spam caller.
On our phones, there is usually a setting that lets us block or mute calls from numbers that are unknown to us, but when it comes to VoIP calls made using messenger apps, that’s a different story. The good news for WhatsApp users who are sick of dealing with spam calls is that a future update should help make it easier to manage.
According to a report from WABetaInfo, it seems that WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will allow users to automatically silence calls that come from an unknown caller. This means that if you get a call from a number that you did not save it will be muted so you don’t have to tend to it if you don’t want to.
At this point it is unclear what WhatsApp means by unknown numbers. Given that WhatsApp works with businesses and allows businesses to have official WhatsApp accounts, we’re not sure if verified businesses will count as an unknown number or if their calls are allowed to go through. Either way, the feature isn’t live yet as it is still in beta, so we’ll have to wait for the public release to get a bit more details about it.
