Back in April, it was revealed that Samsung and iFixit had teamed up to launch a self-repair program this summer. For Samsung customers and fans who might find this program helpful and useful, you might be pleased to learn that the self-repair program is now live and will be available starting today, the 2nd of August, 2022.
As per the previous announcement, the devices currently supported by the program include the Samsung Galaxy S20 and S21 series for smartphones, and the Galaxy Tab S7+ for tablets. The company notes that more supported devices will be added to the list in the future, but for now, only these devices are covered.
Also, the repairs are currently only limited to the display, the back glass panel, and the charging ports, but once again, Samsung does mention that there are plans to cover more repair options in the future. To be fair, the glass front and back are usually the first to go, so it would make sense that Samsung would cover them first.
As for what customers will do with the old parts, Samsung wants customers to recycle. The repair kits will come with a return label that will allow users to send their discarded parts back to the company for recycling. The tools you’ll need to perform the repairs will be available either from iFixit’s website, Samsung 837, or the company’s retail locations.
