One of the features Apple launched for its iPhones is a feature called App Tracking Transparency. This feature, when enabled, basically blocks apps from tracking your activities across the web, which in turn reduces what it knows about you and reduces targeted ads, which is a good thing.
Unfortunately, this isn’t a feature that has been built into Android yet. The company did state earlier this year that they are looking into it, but it has yet to materialize in any concrete form. The good news for Android users who desire this level of protection is that DuckDuckGo is here to help.
The company has announced that they will be introducing an App Tracking Protection feature into its Android app. The idea is that it will function similarly to Apple’s App Tracking Transparency feature but for Android users. According to the company:
“After enabling App Tracking Protection, the DuckDuckGo app will detect when your Android apps are about to send data to third-party tracking companies found in our app tracker dataset, and block those requests. You can enjoy your apps as you normally would and App Tracking Protection will run in the background and continue to block the detected trackers throughout your apps, even while you sleep.”
The feature isn’t available yet to all users but users who are interested can sign up for the beta waitlist via the DuckDuckGo app on Android so that when they are ready to test the feature, you can be part of it.
