Rogers in Canada has launched the LG Optimus GT540 as the LG Loop. The phone is based on Android 1.6 (yea, we know) and looks to be aimed squarely at the crowd not looking for a lot: a 3-inch display with a resolution of 320×480, 3G, Wi-Fi, bluetoooth, and a 3-megapixel autofocus camera with video recording capabilities (no flash).
It also has LG’s custom skin on top. Rogers is offering the now for $29.99 with a 3-year contract, and you can get for $300 if you’d rather do without the extra paper.

Why are they wasting their time (and ours) with this crap?
Yeah. Just because you want to save cash on more mid range and low end hardware doesn’t mean you have to keep 1.6 alive. Motorola has proven you can have a mid range device and at least have 2.1. We are well past this. We really should be only be pushing 2.2 devices if we want to keep up the momentum.

Yeah I agree. To be honest, 2.2 would make these devices run faster.
i do agree, 2.2 would be great. luckily for LG, 95% of people who gets a smartphone doesn’t even know what os their phone runs on much less what version.
