Back in 2018, alongside the Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro, Huawei also unveiled the Mate 20 X. While it featured nearly identical specs as the other Mate 20 smartphones, its main selling point was its massive 7.2-inch display. Then earlier this year, Huawei confirmed that they would be relaunching the phone and giving it 5G capabilities.
For those who are interested in a 5G version of the Mate 20 X, you’ll be pleased to learn that Huawei has confirmed that the handset is set for a launch this month where it will find its way to a handful of markets around the world (no word on a North American launch). The Mate 20 X will be the company’s first 5G smartphone and while for the most part it will be similar to last year’s model, there will be some changes made under the hood.
For example, Huawei has swapped out the old modem for the new Balong 5000 which gives the phone 5G capabilities. They have also upgraded the RAM from 6GB to 8GB, bumped its storage from 128GB to 256GB, and also increased its battery size from 4,200mAh to 5,000mAh.
It is still expected to be powered by the Kirin 980 chipset, which is also used in their 2019 P30 series of flagship smartphones, so in terms of performance, it should be near identical. In terms of pricing, it will vary from market to market, but based on the conversion, we’re looking at prices starting at $900 and going up to $1,200.
