The ZTE Axon 7 was a pretty good flagship device priced in the mid-range area that debuted in 2016, but it’s still getting support despite not being the company’s most recent device. Just yesterday ZTE confirmed that the phone will be getting Android Oreo soon, even if they didn’t give an exact release date.
Now the official LineageOS maintainer for the device has confirmed on the XDA Forums that ZTE has given him access to pre-release firmware in order to work on getting LineageOS 15 running on the device. He has confirmed he’s been working on it and has a stable build running on his phone, but he won’t release it until after ZTE has released their official Android Oreo build for the phone.
Agreed, abiding by their policy is best. Keep in mind I didn’t sign anything. I’m just a random guy they trust and I’d like to keep it that way. All I can say is just hold off until things are settled. Everyone made it through the wait for N I’m sure everyone can make it again for O.
So if you’re running LineageOS 14 on your Axon 7 and looking forward to the next build based on Android Oreo, you’ll be happy to know it’s coming but that you’ll have to wait until ZTE makes it official first.
