Yesterday, a bunch of upcoming Google devices got leaked. We saw official press renders of the Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 2, Google Home Mini, and Daydream View. The renders of the phones only showed the back of the devices, but a new real-world photo gives us a glimpse of the bottom of the Pixel 2.
The photo has been heavily blurred to protect the leaker, but we can clearly see the bottom of the phone. A USB Type-C cable is plugged in, but the only other feature is a small microphone hole. No headphone jack. You might also notice there’s no speaker grill on the bottom, which can also confirm the front-facing speakers.
We should note that the first gen Pixel had a headphone jack on the top edge, so we can’t really officially confirm the headphone jack is gone yet. However, the number of reports suggesting the port is being removed are starting to pile up. At this point, it would be more surprising if they didn’t remove it.
There is said to be a lot of talk at Google about how to spin the removal of the headphone jack. Last year, they poked fun at Apple for the very same thing. It’s possible that Google will launch their own Bluetooth headphones alongside the new phones. Regardless, there are going to be some very upset potential customers.
