At first I was like “OMG, new Google Home commercial,” and then I was like “oh wow, such perfect timing to combat news of the Apple Homepod,” and then I watched the commercial and went “I actually want to blow my brains out.”
If you watch the latest Google Home ad, you’ll get what I mean. Let’s just say that memories of adolescent conversations between teenage school girls will probably make you regret ever pressing play.
In all seriousness, Google is looking to hit its stride with this mainstream level of marketing at a time where it’s most crucial. They’ve already let Amazon get out on a very fast start with Echo and Alexa, and now they have to contend with Apple, who knows how to move their consumers in a way that makes everyone want to buy everything they ever make.

Things should only get better for Google from here, though, with the company fleshing out the Google Home platform with developer SDKs which will allow for many more third-party integrations and new functionality. With the $129 price tag being the sweetest on the market right now, it’s their game to lose.
