By If Samsung’s silence has worried you about the prospects of a SamDroid launching anytime soon, have no fear – the silence has been broken. According to Elizabeth Woyke of Forbes.com, Samsung plans to release several Android devices this year, the first of which will come in June:
Samsung plans to release several Android devices this year. Dr. Won-Pyo Hong, executive vice president of global product strategy in the company’s mobile communication division, said Samsung’s first Android phone is slated to launch in June outside the U.S.
Outside the US? No need to pout – Americans will have their pick of TWO Android devices before the year ends, each going to a different carrier and each with different form factor and design thanks to carrier customization requests. If you couldn’t already guess, those carriers are T-Mobile and Sprint.
Why are they launching in Europe first?
“In Europe, you can launch one common device with several carriers,”
Why hasn’t the company released an Android Phone already?
“Some operators were concerned about the vision Google has [and] that affected [timing],” Hong said.
Meanwhile, LG Electronics VP of Product Strategy and Marketing maintained the company will still have Android Phones in 2009 but was more guarded about giving any details, saying only, “It’s something we continue to work on.”
Yes, I’m a bit jealous of you Europeans but I probably shouldn’t complain since the Android Market isn’t rolled out completely in Europe. To each their own, I suppose. I’m just glad to see a Samsung Android hitting this summer – definitely reason to celebrate!
