After it was rumored that Samsung would be preventing users from charging their Galaxy Note 7s in an upcoming update, the company confirmed it would be rolling out the update to owners of the device in the US. However, it seems that Verizon is going to be fighting against this update and won’t be pushing out the update to Note 7 owners.
Verizon will not be taking part in this update because of the added risk this could pose to Galaxy Note7 users that do not have another device to switch to. We will not push a software upgrade that will eliminate the ability for the Note7 to work as a mobile device in the heart of the holiday travel season. We do not want to make it impossible to contact family, first responders or medical professionals in an emergency situation.
Big Red has released an official announcement stating that it won’t be issuing the software update for various reasons. The biggest reason is a pretty generous one as it would prevent owners of the Galaxy Note 7 from contacting loved ones or emergency personnel during the Holiday season. Another reason for preventing the software update is due to not being able to quickly acquire new smartphones to replace the Note 7.
Verizon is still urging users of the Note 7 to come to their local Verizon Wireless location to swap out the device. The carrier claims it has “several options” for those looking to get a new device, with Samsung continuing to offer $100 off when they purchase another Samsung device.
Verizon Wireless gets a lot of bad rep for its various practices, but this is a good example as of why Verizon is still a good option in the US. Let us know what you think about Verizon’s stance on Samsung’s latest statement regarding the Galaxy Note 7.
