Early in July, rumors began appearing that suggested LG was working on the successor to the LG V10. The V10 took the world by storm with its hefty design which featured a second display, as well as a removable battery and expandable storage. It was also LG’s first non-Nexus device that included a fingerprint scanner.
After the short-comings which came along with the LG G5, folks began wondering if LG would be able to follow up with a new device in the “V” lineup, and those rumors were confirmed just a few weeks ago. Now, we have our first look at what the V20 will bring to the market in terms of design and aesthetics.
The folks at Android Authority, in partnership with @OnLeaks, have obtained a series of renders of the V20 which give us a pretty good idea as to what LG has been cooking up.
The renders show that LG is keeping the secondary display even though some though it was more of a gimmick with the V10. We can also see that the V20 will feature the dual-camera module which was introduced with the LG G5. The fingerprint scanner has also returned, being placed just below the camera module, which seems to be the favorite position for many, and is embedded into the power button similar to that of the G5.
Looking around the sides, we’ll start with the inclusion of USB Type-C as it seems LG is ready to completely move away from microUSB charging in its flagship devices. One of the biggest controversies in the second half of 2016 has been the removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack by some manufacturers, which was kickstarted by the Moto Z and Moto Z Force. LG has opted leave the headphone jack in place which will help some interested parties breathe easier knowing they can still listen to their music the “old-fashioned” way.
Where things get a bit interesting is when looking at the bottom right side of the V20 renders. The renders showcase a button that appears to either be a release for modules or could just be a camera shutter button. If we’re comparing this to the LG G5, the logical conclusion would be that LG is integrating the V20 into its modular plans and this button would be the release to change out the modules.
In addition to a new design that combines the best of the LG G5 and the LG V10, the V20 is expected to be another flagship option just in time for the holiday season. The device is rumored to bring with it either the Snapdragon 820 or 821 processor, 4GB of RAM and a 5.6″ or 5.7″ Quad HD display. The official measurements come in at 159.5mm x 78.1mm x 7.7mm which lines up with the V10 in terms of height, but is a quite a bit more narrow than its predecessor.
We are less than a month away from LG’s official unveiling of the V20 (September 6th), so we’ll be sure to keep our eyes and ears on that event to bring you all the nitty gritty details.
