Every week, hundreds of Android apps and games are submitted to the Play Store. If you’re not paying attention 24/7, it’s easy to miss some of the best stuff. Every week we will highlight five of the best new or overlooked apps and games. You’re sure to find some hidden gems in these recommendations. Go forth and download!
1. Prisma
Prisma is one of the coolest photo manipulation apps to come around in a while. It’s so much more powerful than the simple filter apps that flood the Play Store. Prisma turns your photos into legitimate works of art. You know a lot is happening because it can take up to 30 seconds to apply an effect. The results will amaze you.

2. Dials Calendar
Dials is a calendar that gives you a clock-based view of your day. What does that mean? It’s sort of like those Android Wear watch faces that highlight the sections on the clock where you have a calendar event. Instead of a list you see the entire day presented as a clock. Color-coded pins mark the times where you have something scheduled.

3. Rooms of Doom
Rooms of Doom is the latest game from the developers of Crossy Road. This arcade-style endless runner has you running, sliding, flying, and jumping through the many rooms of Dr. Doom. Each room has its own unique danger. Everything is randomized, which keeps the game from feeling repetitive. It’s fast-paced fun with awesome graphics and music.

4. Taskbar
Taskbar is like a Windows Start Menu for your Android phone. It puts an app tray icon and a list of recent apps in the corner of your screen that can be opened from anywhere. You can tap the app tray to see all of your apps, or use the recent apps for easy multitasking. The Taskbar can be hidden when you don’t need it, but it’s just a swipe away when you do need it.

5. Snakebird
Snakebird is a hard game to explain. It takes a couple of levels to really “get it.” The goal is to eat the fruit and get to the portal at the end. The Snakebird can move in one direction at a time, and it will hold it’s shape as long as a part of the body is touching the ground. The trick is to configure the body in the right shape to make it safely through the level. Easier said than done.
