By I’m not going to lie: I suck at keeping up with my phone. In the past month alone, I’ve probably lost my T-Mobile G1 five different times (with a majority of those incidents happening away from the home). Luckily, there have been great samaritans in those instances helping to return my device to me, but that won’t always be the case.
Enter Phone Halo, a device that I like to call the “dog whistler” of phones. The concept is very simple yet very helpful: if your phone and the Phone Halo part ways with each other after a certain distance, it’ll let you know. Watch the video above and it’ll explain the concept graphically.
The fun part is that this device works two ways: you can either protect yourself from losing your phone, or you can use your phone to make sure you don’t leave your keys, wallet, or purse behind. If you know your keys are around the house somewhere and you just can’t find them, you can use your phone to give the Halo a ring letting you know exactly where it is.
The accompanying app incorporates GPS features which will email and text message you the GPS coordinates of where you lost your stuff. Last but not least, you can have the device automatically lock itself to protect your information and alert your friends if you’ve lost it: this is useful if you want to give everyone a heads up in case someone might have stolen it and start messaging your friends undesirable things.
All of this extra layer of security can be had for either $49.99 or $99.99. With the $99.99 package, you’re given more than just one Halo device so you can manage more than one item at a time. It’s quite hefty, but think of how useful it is and how secure it’ll make you feel: I know for me, it’d practically lower the chances of me losing my phone to nearly zero. Taking into consideration the fact, that you can get most med-class phones for the price of the premium-halo package, you’d probably be better off buying a new handset instead of filling up someone’s pockets.
Nethertheless, the idea is a good one, albeit the price’s steep.
Get that to 9,99 or 19,99 and you’ll get a market.
This is upsetting, in the sense that I had the same idea about 1,2 years ago, but I had no knowledge or capital to get a solution up and running. It involved a GPS chip to tell rough location and a bleeper for when within 10 meters of the device.
I love innovation and wish them the best but for all that money you might as well just stick to things like Mobile Defense Beta or Where’s My Droid. Not the same exact thing, sure, but I don’t see this as necessary.

This isn’t such a bad deal. Have you priced a keyfob for your car? From the stealership you can’t touch one for anywhere near $50. Maybe on ebay. The price is comparable to a bluetooth headset or other device. Plus the software for $50 and I think this is more than fair. I don’t usually have my keys and my phone out at the same time, so forgetting both isn’t really a problem. In the event I do, I won’t get far without my keys. I don’t have a smartphone so I don’t take my phone out for anything but making calls. Might be useful when I get my Evo 4g.
Personally, I would never use this item. However, I know quite a few “40/50 somethings” that could use it. Their memory was a victim of the 60’s.
In 13 years, I’ve NEVER lost a phone, not even my keys.

interesting. the video does not give much detail as to ‘how’ it works but with the price of phones these days…it might be worthwhile for me.
Does everyone here really have nothing better to do than talk negatively about any given post? Get out of your stock, daily routine, and create something. At least this is someone or group trying to inovate and progress. The people on this board can’t be older than 20, judging by the lack of substance in your responses.
Way too expensive, but other than that I like it. Like another poster said, get it down to a reasonable price ($20-$30 max) and I will purchase it.
I dont often misplace my phone. but I work IT and go desk to desk with my fix everything flash drive. and have forgotten to remove it from the computer a time or to. So it would be nice for that. And replacing some of those new remote keys for cars isn’t cheap. This item keeps you from losing your keys and your phone. Sounds like a good deal to me.
Some people have other things on their mind. You are very lucky if you have never lost your keys wallet or other item Deoki. I know how much this can hurt, my room tends to be quite a messy one. Once I managed to knock my phone my bed side table into a magazine holder full of papers. I looked everywhere for it for several months. Even looked in the magazine holder. After around 3-4 months I was tired and fed up with not having my phone, I just by chance decided to check the magazine holder again, as I was sure the last time I saw it, it was on my bed side table. I emptied it and just by chance it was at the bottom.
Now don’t you think a device like this would have saved me time.
People can put things down without noticing. If you don’t suffer this problem, you are very lucky.
