It’s been a long time coming, but the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active is finally receiving its software update to Android Marshmallow courtesy of AT&T. Rolling out now, the update will bring the device up to Android 6.0.1 (software build MMB29K.G890AUCU3CPE4) and introduces a handful of new features like Doze, granular permission controls, Google Now on Tap and WiFi Calling.
Although the update has been dragging its feet, it doesn’t trail too far behind the regular Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge which received the update from AT&T back on May 17th. Of course, off-shoot variants like Samsung’s Active series always take a little longer than regular flagships, so that shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. It’s still something Android enthusiasts who place high value on receiving the latest Android versions should consider before making a purchase.
The update is being pushed to devices over-the-air and if you haven’t received a notification prompt just yet, you can always manually check for the update by jumping into the Settings app > System > About device > Software update > Check for update. For those that have already updated, feel free to share your experiences. We’d love to hear how the update is treating you. Should you encounter any bugs or general weirdness upon updating, we’d recommend performing a factory reset to start things fresh (something that should be done after receiving major Android updates like this).
