Google’s coming full circle with Fiber. The internet may be the future, smartphones may be extremely affordable and TV may be exciting, but good ol’ home phone service is still valued and used by many people. That’s why Google revealed Google Fiber Phone.

For $10 per month you’re getting unlimited calls local and nationwide, and if you’re calling beyond the borders you’ll incur the same rate as Google Voice users. Low cost isn’t the only thing that makes Fiber Phone one of the best home phone solutions, though, as Google is baking in some features that you’d normally only get with VOIP services. Here’s a quick recap of what kind of features you’ll be treated to for signing up:

  • You can keep your current number or get a new one.
  • The Fiber Phone Box lets you use any existing house phone with the service.
  • Voicemail can be transcribed and emailed to you in case you’re away from home or can’t call in to check.
  • Your number is in the cloud, so you can have calls made to your home come to your smartphones and tablets whenever you’re on the go.

Not bad, Google. Fiber Phone will be trialed in a few cities to start, but Google says they’ll have the service available for everyone in all their Fiber cities in due time. In the meantime, you can sign up to be notified of its arrival right here.
