We’ve already rattled off a list of N-named desserts which the next version of Android could be named after, but one Googler could be hinting that they’ve already settled on a name. Hiroshi Lockheimer, who serves Google as Senior Vice President of Android, Chrome and Chrome OS, took to Twitter with the following:
Received a tip from a source familiar with the matter that Nori is not only healthy but also a very tasty treat. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nori
The tongue-in-cheek of this man is oozing. So, Android N could be known as Android Nori. Here’s what a Nori looks like:
It’s seaweed, folks. It’s a common treat in Japan, though in other parts of the world it’s most often used as an edible wrapper for sushi and other foods. We’re not convinced Google is going to use seaweed for their next version of Android. There are many serious issues that would be difficult to hurdle:
- How do you draw seaweed so that it doesn’t look like a deformed Laffy Taffy strip?
- How do you make a seaweed statue look good?
- How do you make people excited to taste seaweed at next year’s Mobile World Congress?
Nope. We’re calling Mr. Lockheimer’s bluff and sticking with our preferred guesses of Nougat or Nutella. Someone make it happen!
