The floodgates on this Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X have been blown wide open, and even more is rushing in today. Android Police has another bundle of information to unleash.
For starters, it’s been revealed that the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P won’t be offered through brick and mortar retail or through carriers. Instead, Google will look to push it completely online. Apparently the move is being made to better promote The Google Store as a one-stop shop for all things Nexus.
It’s a pretty risky move that will greatly lessen the visibility of Nexus devices for most common consumers, though Google doesn’t seem to be worried about that. Google has never been too concerned about the commercial and financial success of Nexus devices, as the line’s ultimate purpose is to demonstrate the types of devices that are possible as Android continues to grow and mature, as well as providing cost-effective options for developers who want to make sure they have the latest and greatest testing environments.
We also get pricing and availability information early on. The Nexus 5X will start at $379 for a 16GB configuration, and will be available in the US, UK, Korea, Japan, and Ireland. It’ll come in Carbon (black), Quartz (white) and Ice Blue.
Meanwhile the Nexus 6P will be a bit more expensive (it packs a bigger overall punch than the Nexus 5X) at about $499 for the base 32GB capacity. Its launch markets will be the U.S., UK, Ireland, Canada, and Japan, and it’ll come in Aluminum (grey), Graphite (black) and Frost (white). The Gold color option will unfortunately launch as an exclusive to Japanese customers.
Both devices will be only be up for pre-sale tomorrow, but there’s no word on when, exactly, they’ll ship. Unfortunately we’re not yet sure how much the price will increase for each storage option beyond that. The 5X will top out at 32GB, but you can go all the way up to 128GB for the 6P.
Either way, it looks like there will be a wide range of options to fit any budget between “modest” and “pretty good,” so be sure to figure out which one you want and prepare your wallets. a wide range of options fo
