Looks like Samsung isn’t wasting any time in addressing the security flaw found in their Exynos processors after formally acknowledging the issue almost 3 weeks ago. Seems Galaxy S3 owners across the pond are now receiving software update I9300XXELLA over-the-air and via Kies to patch up the vulnerability. While there isn’t solid evidence suggesting as much, some are speculating Samsung could be killing 2 birds with one stone, also addressing that nasty sudden death issue plaguing some devices. This is due to the fact that the new software also updates the device’s bootloader as well.
Course, we’ll need an official word from Samsung before confirming but if you’re in the UK — get to updating. As for the rest of us here in the states, we’ll have to twiddle our thumbs a little longer as our respective carriers put the update through its paces before it hits our Note 2’s (don’t worry about our carrier branded Galaxy S3’s, they’re packing entirely different processors and aren’t susceptible to the same security flaw). A multibillion dollar company with salaried developers who let this security hole go into production in the first place took how many more weeks to patch this than the unpaid open source developers of the CyanogenMod…*smh*

The fact that there is an official patch that has to go through product testing to ensure it didn’t break more things has been released within 3 weeks, IMO is pretty darn good.
The amount of times I’ve seen quick patches at my work break other seemingly unrelated tools because they’re too lazy to test properly… I can appreciate how Samsung has handled this. (Assuming they don’t bugger up all the phones with this patch)

Sudden death issue requires bootloader modifications? Guess Verizon will never get that fix.
What does that have to do with Verizon? Locked bootloaders don’t mean the manufacturer/carrier supplied updates can’t update the bootloader.
Verizon doesn’t have Exynos (as stated in the article)
But the sudden death issue effects Verizon phones. This patch for the Exynos fixes two different problems, one of which is the sudden death issue that isn’t specific to the processor. And the article says the sudden death issue fix requires a modification to the bootloader.
