The LG Optimus L9 is a bit of an interesting device. It doesn’t look very impressive on paper and lacks all the hype it was expected to have. It is interesting how one really starts liking it after playing around with it for a while, though. And with it coming to T-Mobile “this Fall,” we just had to take a look at it.
Don’t get us wrong, the device is still no high-end Optimus G, but it is impressive for its specs. It has a very heavy manufacturer UI, a 1 GHz dual-core TI OMAP 4430 and 1 GB of RAM. These specs are comparable to the Galaxy Nexus (save for the custom skin) and we can say the Optimus L9 runs faster and smoother. This is, running Android 4.0 and not even taking advantage of Project Butter and other Jelly Bean improvements.
The build quality is as good as what we saw with the Optimus G and LG Mach, so it is not bad at all. The only difference is that this device happens to be very light. It almost feels too light for a 4.5-inch device, especially for those of us that like devices with a bit of weight. It does carry a 2,150 mAh, so it is not like there is nothing behind that battery door.
Over all, the Optimus L9 is a great device for anyone who wants a mid-end device for T-Mobile’s network. It performs as well as some devices we would consider high-end, so there is not much to complain about. Of course it has its sacrifices, the qHD display and older Android 4.0 software being the most notable. For a fair price, though, we would not doubt to recommend this one to those looking for a good mid-end device.
Seems like Android manufacturers are positioning phones with screens sizes below 4.3 inches as mid range. Would love to see someone make a 4″ or 4.3″ with top of the line specs. Now that would be interesting.
Yeah it’s lame that people who like that size don’t get to have top of the line phones anymore.
The droid razr m is the only one like that.
option to expand memory on this?
I do like the look of this. It is the shape I was hoping for in the Galaxy S3. A lot of LG phones have this style & I would love it if this new rumoured Nexus is the same.
Can’t say I’m a fan of the Boxy shape.
