First Look: Motorola Droid RAZR HD and Motorola Droid RAZR M [VIDEO]

25

The Motorola Droid RAZR HD is the flagship model of a new RAZR lineup for Verizon that debuted today and also includes the Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX HD and Motorola Droid RAZR M. All three devices center around a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor and speedy Android optimizations, but the selling point of the RAZR HD is right in the name: its gorgeous 4.7-inch HD display.

Spec-wise, the RAZR HD and RAZR MAXX HD are nearly identical, with a smaller 2,500mAh battery being the only difference better the non-MAXX and MAXX version. Holding true to its name, the RAZR HD is a skinny handset that makes even last year’s model look a bit bulky (the MAXX HD carries some added girth).

Overall, the device is an improvement in every area, from software to hardware. The design is sleek and futuristic, the OS experience is clean, and everything really pops on the display.

Check out our first-look video, which also includes footage of the RAZR M. Though smaller and priced more affordably, the RAZR M doesn’t cheat users in terms of power. We’ll have a bit more in-depth coverage on that device later (Motorola was kind enough to offer us one as a parting gift). The RAZR M is available next week for $99. The RAZR HD will be available closer to the holiday season in both black and white color options.

  1. i’d love to know dimensions of both the RAZR HD and MAXX HD. oh, and also the pixel density for the screen!

    1. If the screen is a 4.7″ at 720p hd the pixel density should be the same as my Evo Lte with a 4.7″ screen at 312ppi

    2. Not sure offhand, but the HTC One XL has the same size screen (4.7″) and a 720p (1280×720) screen, so the pixel density should be the same. Google it.

  2. The white model looks sexy like the Galaxy S3.

  3. No Jelly Bean? You have got to be kidding. You guys are owned by Google. Going to get Jelly Bean before the end of the year? Sure. Just ask the current Razr owners about getting the Ice Cream Sandwich OTA in a timely manner. Last, what is the “edge to edge screen? The white bezel actually looks wider than the one on my GNex. Edge of what?

    1. I agree… the double chin on the bottom needs to go away…..They f*cked up yet again….

  4. Perfect phone = Droid Razr Maxx HD Developer

    1. ^ THIS!

  5. wow it actually looks good

  6. Droid razr m by far the best looking of the 3, sexy indeed

  7. Looks hot, but if the bootloader is going to be a PITA like Moto phones are normally, I’m not going to even bother. I’ll wait for the line of Nexus phones.

    1. There’s DEV editions that will be FULLY unlocked. (presumably)

  8. Man. Motorola just can’t make anything look good.

  9. Looks almost as nice as my One X

  10. I bet the phone icon has something to do with Apple lawsuits.

    1. The only time apple lawsuits comments will be fun is when this happens/happened/is-happening:

Samsung deliberately lost the case, causing:
1 iPhone users to think samsung is the cheaper version of apple products
2 People to dislike Apple for suing so much
3 Apple to get ignorant and sue more so this will happen:
4 Samsung wins in appeals court (still benefits from the love for sammy and the hate for apple)
5 The new lawsuits of apple use sammy’s appeal court case as a precedent that apple is a suing troll and causes apple to waste lots of money on suing in cases they don’t end up winning.

  11. This is exactly the phone that everyone wanted from Moto … at the end of 2011. Was hoping for a lot more from today’s event, like significant hardware upgrades or some new innovation in the design. Even the sales guy in the video seemed to find the hardware dull since he skipped pretty quickly to talking software, as if ICS and chrome are some earth shattering new Moto features that nobody else can offer. Sure hope google can get these guys moving forward again.

    1. Yeah it was a big disappointment and you can even tell from how they handled the demo (remember the wifi?) that they aren’t quite ready for the big leagues yet.
Why can’t we have something that looks like this

  12. Any mention of WEBTOP for the new RAZR phones?

  13. I’m starting to like Motorla designs more and more. The RAZR HD looks fantastic (especially in white) and the stock looking UI is a major plus as well. I can see Motorola has already come a long way since the last Motorola phone I’ve had, the Electrify (Photon for USCC).

  14. The RAZR MAXX HD probably has a NON-user accessible battery, huh?

  15. did i miss something? i thought we were at quad cores already…

  16. Does anyone besides me realize what Motorola is doing? They have successfully overcome one for Android’s major weaknesses. Battery life. The S4 processor SIPS battery as anyone with a GS3, One X, or One S knows. With a 2000 mAh battery, the RaZR M will easily last all day. With it’s 2,500 mAh battery, the RAZR HD might last as long as the current RAZR MAXX. And with it’s 3,300 mAh battery, the RAZR HD MAXX will make the current RAZR MAXX’s battery life look short. This is all of course assuming that they got all the software right but still. Motorola Battery life FTW!!!

  17. These phones are great , unique design and awesome batteries , plus expandable storage. They also announced developer edition for the hacker community that likes having there boot loader unlocked to tweek the phones the way they like. The phone has similar specs to the one x and galaxy s3 but the RAZR HD and maxx HD have bigger batteries than both. Its also a good idea to buy phones from a company that’s owned by Google , hopefully that translates to quick updates.

  18. Looks pretty nice but it’s Motorola – the one company you definitely can’t trust, so no.
