HTC sending out invites to September 19 press event

46

HTC has just sent out a round of invites for a press event to be held September 19th in New York City. The invite provides little in the way of clues as to what we can expect when we roll up to the showcase, merely prodding us to “Join HTC to see what’s next.” A graphic of some sort appears at the bottom of the invite, but it’s hard to say if it actually has anything to do with what we will be shown off or if it merely is filling out space on an otherwise bland invitation.

Speculation is that the Taiwanese company will unveil several smartphones, including new Windows Phone 8 devices. The fact that the invite hit our inbox suggests Android will be on display as well.

  1. One X+

  2. I’ve never owned a phone with Sense UI, but doesn’t that kinda look like the Sense unlock screen where you drag the ring up to unlock the phone?

    1. Actually, you drag the application down to the ring to use it. Dragging the ring up just unlocks the phone normally.

      1. There. Better?

    2. I thought that too..

  3. It looks like the Jelly Bean, Google Now swipe from the bottom bar.

  4. Though I am surprised this post didn’t end with something along the lines of “What do you guys think? Will HTC introduce the world to new phones capable of taking on the Galaxy S3? Sound off in the comments below.”

    1. The One X already does. Not to mention the One X and S just came out a few months ago.

      1. You completely missed my point. It was a reference to how it seems like every article now ends with an invitation for users to give their opinions because they’re allegedly interested in knowing what others think.

        1. Yeah, because that’s how you build a fan base on a blog. Do you really think there would be this many people here if the Phandroid staff were too lazy to do such things?

    2. They could start by releasing the One X to Verizon and then the rest of the world. Samsung figured this out a long time ago.

      1. Verizon does not want a One X like when it did not release a SGS2 and the rest of the world has a one X

  5. “come see the next phone that won’t receive updates in as timely a manner as promised…oh yeah, we’re sorry about the Thunderbolt”

(previous TB owner, now on a gsm gnex)

    1. Well said. The Incredible 2 as well.

      1. I think that may have more to do with VZW than HTC.

        1. This. Verizon is bad about their updates. Moreso than any other carrier I’d dare say.

          1. That’s true, but HTC said it was their fault for the delay of ICS for Rezound. Even if you think of it simply…HTC announced it and missed the deadline. VZW never announces it, so maybe they should stop since everyone seems to have to extend it before it is finally released.

        2. Yeah ‘cuz the Vivid got ICS way before the Rezound. Stupid Verizon..

        3. Hell even my 3D has ICS before the rezound. And the leak for the rezound was out months before the ICS for the Evo 3D. So ya it is VZW

  6. HTC burned customers of the Incredible 2 and Thunderbolt pretty bad with no ICS update let alone JB, and no source code. I wouldn’t recommend any products from them. Just as their newer phones probably won’t get updates for upcoming Android releases.

For that matter, I wouldn’t recommended any non-Nexus Android phone for similar reasoning.

    1. I won’t get a nexus phone unless it has SD and removable battery. I can handle the updates on my own.

      1. Aren’t all phone batteries rechargeable? O_o lol

        1. i think he meant removable :)

          1. Yeah. So when one battery runs out, you just pop in a new fully charged battery and you’re good to go.

          2. I’ve had cellphones since the 90’s and i’ve never once swapped a battery when it died. This is meaningless to me.

          3. Thats nice but the rest of us would like that option. I rarely do it myself but I do it. Example, my GF’s phone has been charging all night but mine has been under the couch. I steal her battery.

          4. Also, sometimes, things ‘happen’ and the phone freezes and I fix that problem by taking out the battery and putting it back in again and I’m OK. Don’t need to go to a store just to get my phone working again.

          5. All phone with a embed battery can be shorted to reset the phone. Like hold the power button for 10 second.

          6. Yeah because you probably don’t do a lot of stuff with your phone… I mean, pocket computer.

      2. Every single Nexus has had a removable battery. I’d think 32GB of internal storage would be enough too. I’m not sure what you guys are storing. If it’s movies, you can do that cheaper with a flash drive and a USB-OTG cable whenever you want to actually watch a movie.

    2. Why do everyone think it is HTC fault? I think you don’t know what you are talking about. HTC has release ICS for the international version of your phone maybe it is Verizon.

  7. Is that graphic at the bottom a reference to Google Now? Are they talking about JB?

    1. That’s exactly what I was thinking when I saw it.

    2. Heres hoping that the event will be the start of the release of Jelly Bean! :)

  8. Maybe they’re holding a press event to announce to ICS rollout for the INC2 and Thunderbolt….oh wishful thinking… :(

  9. The graphic on the bottom of the invite is clearly the Sense Jellybean lock screen ring.

    (perhaps with Google now integration)

  10. it definitely has to do with Sense. i’m kinda hoping for an HTC One Note :)

  11. HTC “Note”???

    1. One can only hope…..that they don’t bog it down with Sense, if it is.

  12. Stock Android HTC Phone would be nice.

  13. Yeah I’m hoping for a Galaxy Note 2 competitor.

  14. I turned my One S sideways and looked at the back. That graphic is the ring around the camera and the flash above it.
I’m guessing new phone and maybe a new version of sense running on Jelly Bean and a release date for it on One phones!

  15. As long as the invite isn’t about updating any of their products on time.

  16. I’m hoping it is a stylized Ubuntu logo :)

  17. Let’s see if they can make THIS date. Amirite folks?

  18. this better be the lovechild of the sensation xl and that concept note-style phone that was circulating around the web. keep the beats audio and try to fit a 2.1 ghz processor and htc might just be the holiday beast
