By Sony has long had a fruitful relationship with the Android operating system through phones and their unique ability to bring PlayStation titles to the platform. Now, they’re giving PlayStation 3 owners a nice new app to use Android phones with.
The YouTube app for PlayStation 3 is now available, and Android users can control the app with their phones. Here’s the tidbit that matters to us from the YouTube blog:
Your phone as a remote: With a quick pairing process, you can control YouTube on PS3 with a smartphone. Find a video on your phone and with a button it’ll play on the big screen. While the video is playing you can control it from the phone, or keep browsing YouTube for the next one.
“But why not just use the controller?” Well, that’s a lot more cumbersome. I use YouTube on my Xbox 360 and I hate using the on-screen interface to find videos I want to watch. The searching interface alone is enough to make me revert to my PC.
With this solution I can use my phone to find the videos I want, and this is a much more comfortable experience as I can type pretty fast with my on-screen keyboard.
The beautiful thing about the PlayStation 3 is that it’s open, and it has Bluetooth. I could easily hook up a wireless keyboard/keypad and use the on-screen interface, but if I don’t have one and am not willing to buy one it only makes sense that I am allowed to use devices I already have.
Needless to say, I’ll be heading straight for my PlayStation 3 anytime I want to watch YouTube on the bigger screen from now on. To download the YouTube app for PlayStation be sure to find it under My Channels in the PlayStation store.

You dont need the seperate Youtube Remote app. Took me awhile to figure it out. :-P
Open your phones YouTube app. Press menu and choose “add YouTube TV”
Now goto your youtube app on your ps3, get your pairing code and input it into your YouTube app on your phone. Now name the pairing PS3 or something n hit ok/add tv and your done. ;)
I can’t find it anywhere. I looked under my channels not their. I looked in play store And only found the vita app.
I couldn’t find it in the store. But it is still listed under the ‘What’s New’ section of the PSN.

I already use this with my tv. It’s pretty nice and you can make playlists as well.
I am curious to know if it will play highdef video from youtube.
I’m not seeing the APP anywhere, i just uploaded a new version of PS3 as well to see if that was the problem… It still not appearing anywhere (Even under the search option in the actual store only came up the vita app)
excellent… now if they’ll only update the 360 version to include YouTube Remote functionality just as this has, it’ll be awesome.

found it under the “Whats new” section and it took me straight to the PS store to download it. It even works via the mobile site if you dont want to actually use the app which I accidently did haha
do we have to constantly keep pairing the devices through browser every time it dc’s ? kinda annoying
Oh this is very nice to hear. I hope this is going to be effective. I wonder if I’ll hear about operating Xbox 360 using your Window Phones.
Weird, worked thru the YouTube app the first time then nolonger works thru the YouTube app.
Now have to use the browser page.
Annoying that it seams I have to constantly keep pairing my device. Also had to log in 3 different times in the past hour… Needless to say, it needs some work.

OK took me awhile to figure out getting it to work again from my phones YouTube app without needing YouTube remote or going thru the browser :-P

PS3 app taked forever/nearly lock up when I try to play “The Incredibles” by Keith Murray and LL Cool J tho :'(
Still needs some work. Its really slow to load videos.
Loving this app on the ps3 but I’m so hoping they update it with the choice to choose the video resolution.
It seemed to be streaming in SD, but it was filling up the screen on my HD TV. So I couldn’t really tell if it was streaming at HD resolutions or not. I wish that there was some indicator of the resolution and a way to change it. The app itself is much better than the YouTube app on my 1 year old Bravia HD TV (but that one does allow switching from SD to HD).
