Remember those flexible AMOLED displays we told you Samsung was busy putting into production this year? Well, we may have found the battery that could soon power them. Created by the masterminds at the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, Professor Keon Jae Lee and friends are showing off their flexible lithium-ion batteries that can bend and warp, without affecting the battery’s performance in any way. Demonstrated in the below video, you can see for yourselves the fruits of their labor.
While this technology may be a sign of things to come, the real appeal of flexible displays and batteries aren’t phones that roll up into your pockets, but components that are less likely to break or explode in extreme situations. Bring it on, OEM’s.

Technology is amazing.
I’m all for thinness and durability, but am I the only one who does NOT want a smartphone that bends? Or any flexible gadget for that matter.
I see where your going, however when you drop your gadget there will be less damage to it. And that – im perfectly ok w/ !!
i would like a “stiff” cell phone but one that is CAPABLE of bending if necessary (instead of fracturing)
if its in my pocket and i sit down in an awkward position and the phone bends to conform to my shape that is what i want. but when i hold it to my ear i want it to be rigid and not bend around while simply holding it

Everyone should patent and license the technology to everyone else, excluding Apple products :)

I’m excited for when this goes beyond smartphones. This is going to make it a lot easier to integrate things with our physical universe and get technology out of the way of daily physical interaction. A really thin almost invisible flexible display that you can wear over your eyes. Sounds great to me.
That’s pretty cool, but how long can it hold a charge for and how big of a charge? Powering a little LED really doesn’t take much of anything.
If the batteries can be this thin, then I hope phones are not this thin, what I want is 2 or 3 of these batteries in my new phone which will make the phone still as thin as the Galaxy S3 but will give you over 2 days battery life.
Life before touchscreens/smartphone meant charging your phone Once a week, now its 7 days a week or more.

Would love to be able to put my Galaxy S VII around my wrist and let the display transform itself into a smartphone watch instead of squishing it into the pockets.
That would be awesome. You just flip it out for phone calls etc. And have it wrapped around the arms when jogging, listening to music
