According to S4GRU — a forums dedicated to following Sprint’s Network Vision rollout — Sprint’s 4G LTE has already begun showing a pulse in the San Francisco Bay area, ahead of its official launch. Sites aren’t expected to go live until November, but some Sprint customers have reported seeing LTE on their devices, in the San Jose, Cupertino area, hitting speeds of 17Mbps down/9Mbps up. The map pictured above shows green dots where LTE was connected, and blue dots for 3G. What’s more is users are also reporting of improved 3G speeds of 1.5Mbps down (where they previously had 400kbps).
Of course, the LTE connection wasn’t anywhere near consistent but it’s nice to see Sprint making progress with their Network Vision rollout. Any Phan readers in the Bay area noticing their LTE icons lighting up?

Yeah, I got that signal in Conyers, GA, in a restaurant parking lot. I go to Decatur for school and I haven’t seen LTE there, yet. I’ve seen a signal here and there in other locations, and should get more consistent over time.
How’s the signal strength? My Evo 4g was a nightmare. I’m hoping LTE will be more consistent.
The signal strength for that test was 3 bars average with topping out at 4 bars. I had tested in the same area, but moving in my car, a couple of days before it and still got half those speeds before I left the coverage area. Coverage is still spotty, but should be filled in by the time the end of the year rolls around.

Since I am moving to Fremont CA within a few weeks I am glad to see these results, gives me some options. Still doesn’t compare to what I have now with T-Mobile on my SGS2 sitting in my living room. But, I still don’t know what I will have at my new location.

If sprint can rival Verizon’s LTE AND keep unlimited data… they can recapture a large portion of the market. Especially considering Verizon’s terrible new “share” plans. Let’s just hope they don’t get greedy and take unlimited away. Go underdog sprint!
