It is with profound sadness that we here at Phandroid learn that Susan Wojcicki, the former CEO of YouTube, has passed away at the age of 56 after her 2 year battle with lung cancer. Susan leaves a legacy of innovation, leadership, and dedication that has profoundly shaped the digital landscape. Susan Wojcicki’s journey in the tech industry began long before her tenure at YouTube. She was one of Google’s earliest employees, joining the company in 1999 as its first marketing manager. Her work at Google was instrumental in the development and success of AdSense. AdSense became one of the company’s major revenue drivers. She also played a critical role in the acquisition of YouTube in 2006. She was able to recognize the platform’s potential to revolutionize content creation and distribution.
In 2014, Susan became the CEO of YouTube, a position she held until 2023. Under her leadership, YouTube transformed into a global platform with over two billion monthly active users. She spearheaded initiatives that expanded YouTube’s reach and influence. This includes the development of YouTube Premium, YouTube Music, and YouTube TV. Her focus on supporting creators and expanding monetization options helped cultivate a vibrant and diverse community of content creators worldwide
