Qualcomm will launch the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 in the coming months, but thanks to a post on Weibo by Digital Chat Station, the benchmarks of the chipset have surfaced. Based on the numbers on Geekbench, it looks like the chipset could be quite a powerhouse that will give the competition pause.
According to the numbers, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 managed to score 2,884 points on single-core performance. It also scored 8,840 points on multi-core. This is roughly a 30% increase in performance compared to its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. It is interesting because the rumors we’ve heard so far suggest that the gains will mostly be in the GPU.
Also what’s interesting is that these benchmarks seem to refute earlier claims that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 could score 3,500 points in single-core performance. The previous report suggested that the Gen 4 could handily beat out Apple’s upcoming A18 Pro. However, that was based on the assumption that it scored 3,500 points on single-core. These numbers are telling a different story.
Either way, we’ll have to wait and see to find out. In the meantime, there are reports that claim the prices of the Gen 4 are going to be pretty high. This could force handset manufacturers to decide if the gains in performance and efficiency are worth it, or if they would rather seek cheaper alternatives.
