Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 could absolutely destroy Apple’s A18 Pro

0

Qualcomm has pretty much confirmed that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will launch this October. We expect the usual host of improvements in the new chipset, but according to the latest rumors, it could end up being a beast and wreck the Apple A18 Pro. This is according to a report out of Korea where the alleged benchmark scores have been revealed.

According to the leak, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 has a single-core score of 3,500. Apparently Apple’s A18 Pro, which will debut in the iPhone 16 series later this year, only managed 3,300. The report also claims that the Gen 4’s prime core could be clocked at 4.3GHz with a power draw of 1.3V.

This is incredibly powerful, but the reality is that it is not viable on a smartphone. This means that maybe on paper, the Gen 4 could hit those clock speeds, but in actual application, it could run a little bit slower. This is not the first time we’ve heard about the Gen 4’s leaks. An earlier report suggested that the score of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is closer to 2,800.

Either way, it’s too early to tell if these scores are accurate. Benchmarks also only tell one side of the story. Plus, with Apple controlling the hardware and software, they don’t really need to have the fastest chipset.
