The investment in AI is expensive. It requires investing time and resources into developing the technology, as well as buying the necessary hardware to run it. This is why it’s not surprising to learn that Apple could start charging for Apple Intelligence in the future, but how much would it cost?
According to a report from CNBC, it is expected that Apple could charge between $10 to $20 a month. This is based on analyst Neil Shah, a partner at Counterpoint Research. Shah said that due to the investment in AI being so expensive, companies like Apple are looking to pass some of that cost onto its customers.
Shah also suggests that this subscription could be bundled into the existing Apple One plan. At the moment, the cheapest plan is priced at $19.95 a month. It includes Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, and 50 gigabytes of iCloud storage. We imagine that with the addition of Apple Intelligence, that plan could get a bit more expensive.
Keep in mind that Apple probably won’t lock Apple Intelligence entirely behind a paywall. More basic and core AI features will probably remain free, but additional and more advanced AI tools could require a subscription. Apple isn’t alone in trying to charge customers access to AI. Samsung has stated that they plan to do so as well. Google also has its Google One AI Premium plan priced at $19.99 a month.
