Many of you might know TikTok for its short-form videos, but the company has made an interesting decision to launch a new social media app. According to a post on X by Artem Russakovskii, TikTok has quietly launched a new app that they’re calling “Whee”.
Judging from the screenshots, it seems that this looks a lot like an Instagram clone. According to TikTok, Whee is an app that will keep users “connected with your close friends”. Basically it sounds like a private social network where you get to upload content that only your close friends get to see.

“Whee is a new social app created to keep you connected with your close friends through life’s spontaneous moments. Capture and share real-life photos that only your friends can see, allowing you to be your most authentic self. Whee is the best place for close friends to share life moments.”
We find this decision to be rather odd. Why is that, you ask? This is because back in April, TikTok confirmed that they are working on an app called TikTok Notes. The app later rolled out to some users and it is basically a photo sharing space. It kind of made sense since TikTok itself is largely video-based, so having a separate app for photos could work.
But now the company has launched another very similar app called Whee which we’re not sure what the point of it is. It is possible that maybe TikTok Notes could be rebranded to Whee, but we can’t be sure. In any case, for those who are curious, you can download Whee from the Play Store.
