Last year, Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon X Elite chipset. The new chipset is designed to go head to head with the Apple Silicon chipset. Unfortunately, it appears that early reviews of the Snapdragon X Elite chipset are leaving a lot to be desired.
This is according to a post on Reddit by u/caponica23 where they published an initial impressions for the new Samsung Galaxy Book Edge. Based on the benchmarks they ran, the laptop scored 1829 on single-core and 11379 on multi-core on battery. It scored 1841 on single-core and 11537 on multi-core when plugged in.

According to these scores, it seems that it actually fares worse compared to Apple’s iPhone 12 mini. This seems to paint a completely different picture from earlier benchmarks which suggested that the Snapdragon X Elite would blow the Apple Silicon out of the water.
Now, it is entirely possible that this could be a bug that is causing the chipset to underperform. As Tom’s Hardware notes, the review embargo has not been lifted. It is also possible that future reviews of the Snapdragon X Elite could offer better benchmarks once a patch or firmware update has been released.
Either way, color us not impressed for now. But we’ll definitely be keeping our eyes peeled.
