There was a rumor back in March that suggested Samsung could go all-in on Exynos in 2025. This is apparently due to costs where reports are claiming that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 could be 20% more expensive than its predecessor. Now a report from Digital Chat Station has revealed some worrisome news.
According to the post, the price of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be more expensive than the Gen 3. This in turn could result in some companies seeking an alternative chipset. The post does not mention which company it could be, so it’s hard to say. That being said, we can’t say we’re too surprised if this turned out to be true.
MediaTek’s recent Dimensity 9000 series of chipsets have been gaining traction. The company’s chipsets used to be viewed as a less powerful alternative to Qualcomm, but benchmarks are showing that MediaTek is quickly catching up. If Qualcomm prices the Gen 4 too high, then we wouldn’t be surprised if we start seeing more MediaTek powered flagship phones in the future.
That being said, Qualcomm did recently announce the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. This is a slightly less powerful variant of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and is cheaper, so maybe Qualcomm could launch a variant for the Gen 4 to make it more affordable.
