With the Samsung Galaxy S24 series, Samsung returned to its original strategy of using a mix of Exynos and Qualcomm chipsets for the phones. This is expected to continue with the Galaxy S25 next year. The rumors are claiming that the lineup could be powered by the Exynos 2500. But it seems that it might not be as bad as we think.
According to a report from Business Korea, they claim that the Exynos 2500 will be built on the 3nm process. For context, the Exynos 2400 is built on the 4nm process. A smaller process means a more transistor-dense chipset, which in theory should improve performance and energy efficiency.
That’s kind of what Samsung is aiming for. It also claims that as a result, the Exynos 2500 might actually end up being more energy efficient compared to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. This means that on paper, the Exynos powered Galaxy S25 phones should offer longer battery life. Will that translate to the real world? We’ll have to wait and see.
The report doesn’t mention anything about actual performance, so don’t get your hopes up. We had previously heard that one of the reasons Samsung is still using Exynos chipsets is due to costs. Given that Samsung makes their own chipsets, it makes sense that it would be cheaper to source from themselves rather than a third-party.
