When you send replies via Gmail, Google offers users some suggested replies that will make responding quicker. For the most part, it does a pretty decent job. The only problem is that they tend to be quite short, which isn’t really an issue if you prefer giving succinct responses. But if you want something a bit more detailed, Gemini could help power Gmail replies in the future.
This is according to a report from PiunikaWeb where they were tipped off by AssembleDebug. According to the discovery, it looks like Gmail for Android could be getting some Gemini capabilities. This will apply to suggested replies. The use of AI could offer better understanding of the email and its contents, and provide more contextual replies instead of more generic ones.
Google bringing its AI to more of its products and services isn’t new. In fact, earlier this year Google announced that subscribers to its Google One cloud service could unlock Gemini features for Gmail. This would allow Gmail users to use Gemini to help compose emails. The difference between that and this feature shared by PiunikaWeb is that it seems more catered towards replies.
We’re not sure if a Google One subscription is needed to unlock this feature or if it will be available to all Gmail users. The feature isn’t live yet for all users but it might be something to look forward to in the future.
