Google Maps gets Three Big Updates just in Time for Summer

0

With the Summer season just around the corner, there’s bound to be lots of opportunities for travel and vacation. As such, Google’s been cooking up some pretty nifty ways to help you get around and make the most of your excursion, and reduce the time spent on fumbling around with maps and navigation apps.

For one, users planning a trip to a specific city will now be able to check out curated recommendations from people who are familiar with the area, which will be accessible via Google Maps. Users will also be able to view list-based information (specific to their destination) from major sites including Lonely Planet, OpenTable, and more.

These lists include “Trending” which is updated weekly with places that have recently seen a spike in popularity on Maps, “Top list” which features places that the Maps community has consistently loved, and the “Gems List” for those hidden, out-of-the-way restaurants and sites which fly under the radar. users will start seeing these lists in more than 40 cities across the U.S. and Canada starting this week.

Google Maps will also allow users to create lists within the app, allowing travellers to keep an eye on the places where they’d like to go and have been to. Users can also arrange their list entries chronologically, and based on ranking and recommendations.

Furthermore, users can get a good sense of a place and its highlights at a glance with Google’s AI-integrated functions, which can identify key insights from the maps community. This means that users will be able to see photos and reviews on restaurants and other businesses. AI can also help users identify dishes in menus, including costs, ingredients, and such.
